Our client, an R&D stage biotechnology company, is searching for an Animal Research Associate to join their team in Rockville, MD. The Animal Research Associate will be responsible for supporting all rodent in vivo studies. The ideal candidate will have experience working with rodents in a laboratory animal research setting.

Location: Rockville, MD
Shift: 1st shift Monday-Friday, with some weekend availability. Must be flexible for 6:30-7:30 AM start time
Pay: $24-$28 per hour
Type: 6-month contract-to-hire


Job Responsibilities
    • Perform general injection techniques using proper methods and animal handling.
    • Perform general tissue harvest collections such as lungs, kidneys, spleen, liver, and brain.
    • Assisting with several advanced harvests, when needed (lymph nodes, nasal tissue, BAL).
    • Daily clinical observations and examination of animals for signs of disease and distress and recording and reporting of findings.
    • Lesion and/or tumor measurements, when required.
    • Animal weighing and recording and reporting of findings, when required.
    • Perform vaccine and viral dosing calculations along with the preparation of formulations under sterile conditions using an aseptic technique (powder compounds, liquids)
    • Assist with tissue processing, when required.
    • Assist with general animal care (animal intake, husbandry, breeding colony) when required.
    • Daily monitoring and maintenance of the vivarium and inventories.
    • Perform quality review of all required in-life study documents to ensure accurate completion of all associated manipulations and animal records.
       
Qualifications
  • AA/AS/BA/BS is preferable along with AALAS certification at a minimum of LAT required.
  • 1-2 years’ prior experience working in a general laboratory setting and the use of aseptic techniques.
  • 2-3 years’ prior experience working in laboratory animal research setting with rodents and using general sterile techniques.
  • Basic technical procedures on rodents such as SC, IP, IM, ID, IV injections, and oral gavage (PO) using aseptic technique.
  • Basic blood draw methods on rodents including cardiac puncture, tail vein, and submandibular, and retro-orbital techniques) using an aseptic technique.
