Animal Care Technician

Pay: $19/hr
Schedule: 730am -4pm either Tuesday-Saturday or Sunday-Thursday (Needs to be open to either)
Location/Worksite: Marietta, Georgia 30064
Terms: Contract-to-Hire

 An ideal candidate would have husbandry experience, a desire to work in a research environment, a good work ethic, and be content providing care for the animals on study.   We have struggled a bit with people who come in as experienced vet techs quickly becoming dissatisfied with cleaning cages.    A candidate with large animal experience, rodent experience, or research experience is a plus.   

     

JOB PURPOSE: Provide daily care, husbandry, and support to the laboratory animals at GCMI / T3 Labs test facility sites.  Maintains the vivarium’s sanitation per SOP.  Maintains and generates the individual animal’s medical records.  Interpret medical orders, calculate pharmaceutical doses and administer medications unsupervised.

EDUCATION, SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma/GED & a minimum of  2 year of lab animal exp or veterinary  experience.  Alternatively an  Associates or Bachelor Degree & a minimum of 1 year lab animal exp or veterinary exp.   SPECIALIZED SKILLS:   Interpret medical orders, accurately calculate pharmacologic doses and administer medications. The ability to understand medical orders both written and verbal. Knowledge of different drug classifications. The ability to perform physical exams on various animal species. The ability to routinely lift more than 50 lbs.
