Research Animal Care Technician

Passionate about animal care and research? As a Research Support Technician, you’ll play a key role in managing research animal breeding colonies, gaining hands-on experience in animal care, breeding, and lab procedures. Key Responsibilities
- Animal Care: Monitor animal health, report concerns, ensure proper food, water, and cage conditions.
- Breeding & Colony Management: Follow breeding plans, conduct tissue biopsies, identify/wean animals, and document breeding activities.
- Communication & Documentation: Respond to researcher requests, maintain records, and report breeding status.
- Facility & Environmental Monitoring: Ensure compliance with sanitation, environmental, and regulatory standards.
- Additional Duties: Perform animal restraint, humane euthanasia, equipment maintenance, and technical support.
Qualifications
- Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
- Experience: 2+ years in lab animal care or veterinary tech preferred; no breeding experience required.
- Certification: AALAS ALAT (within 12 months of hire).
- Skills: Strong observation, communication, organization, and ability to work independently or in a team.
Work Conditions & Physical Demands
- Exposure to animals, allergens, biohazards, and cleaning agents.
- PPE required for extended periods.
- Weekend/holiday/overtime work may be necessary.
- Heavy lifting (up to 50 lbs.), frequent standing, bending, and animal handling.
