Senior R&D Food Technologist
Pay Rate Low: 35 | Pay Rate High: 42
About the Role
We are seeking a highly driven and innovative Senior R&D Food Technologist to join a fast-paced beverage manufacturing environment. This individual will play a critical role in leading product development initiatives from concept through commercialization. The ideal candidate is both technically strong and creatively minded, with the ability to operate independently while driving projects forward in alignment with business goals.

Location: San Fernando Valley, CA
Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Type: Contract-to-hire (90 days)
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the formulation and development of innovative beverage and food products, from ideation through pilot and production scale-up.
- Translate customer briefs and internal concepts into commercially viable formulations with speed and precision.
- Evaluate feasibility of new products by assessing ingredient functionality, processing capabilities, equipment limitations, and scalability.
- Develop, document, and maintain master batch records, specifications, and processing procedures.
- Partner cross-functionally with Production, Quality, and Supply Chain to ensure seamless product commercialization.
- Serve as a technical liaison to external stakeholders, including clients and vendors, ensuring alignment on product expectations and deliverables.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives related to formulation, processes, and product quality.
- Mentor and support junior R&D staff, fostering technical development and best practices.
- Establish and refine systems for sample tracking, organization, and distribution.
Qualifications
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Chemistry, or a related scientific field.
- 5+ years of experience in food and/or beverage product development (beverage experience strongly preferred).
- Hands-on experience with formulation, bench work, and scale-up in a manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of ingredient functionality, processing methods, and shelf-life considerations.
- Proven ability to manage multiple R&D projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and organizational skills.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to collaborate across technical and non-technical teams.
